I have never read any Spider-Man comics but I am looking forward to seeing the movie. One thing I read though kind of bothered me and I wanted to get responses from those of you who are die-hard Spidey fans. I had heard that Kirsten Dunst had suggested to Sam Raimi to add the scenes involving her fighting although this was out of character from the comic. I haven't seen the movie yet so I don't know how I am going to accept it. What do you guys

Don't worry, you won't get to see her fight.

Well, I don't want to see MJ donn a spandex suit and fight crime, if she is attacked, she should fight back. That's in character.

Didn't she beat the Chameleon with a baseball bat? Yes, Chameleon is a wimp in the supervillian arena, but it was fun anyway.

I still love the scene where she's faces down thugs on the subway. Of course, Peter's head was in her lap, so she really had nothing to worry about. That was back efore the relaunch, alas.

Do you like J.R.R. Tolkien's book or the lame movie?

Oh, and because I stated a personal preference, you liken me to him? Thanks a heap. Me, I figure I can have my own opinion without having to try to browbeat the rest of the world into accepting it. Do I wish the film hadn't been made? Sure, why not? Do I think it was wrong to do so? Of course not. Do I think anyone who sees it is a dork? Of course not. My only concern is that I feel sorry for the people who see the movie but never read the book. I simply choose not to see it for my own reasons.

No, I just find patronizing attitudes annoying. Like you're still doing.

When did I say otherwise? Who are you arguing with? Please confine your responses to what I actually say, not the arguments you think I must believe because you think you already have me pigeon-holed. The prejudice is getting on my nerves.

What's your point? I never said I wasn't that big a fan, anyway. I said I didn't read the comics. I *loved* the cartoon. Spidey is my favourite superhero. If I could have super powers, his would be it. To soar through the city like that... it'd be so cool.

You sir, are a judgmental ass. I had hoped to have an intelligent conversation, but you insist on behaving as if your viewpoint and opinions are Truth from On High, and trying to make people who don't agree feel stupid. Well, too bad. I feel just brilliant.

Since comics are usually continuing storylines doled out month by month, I would imagine it would take a little committment to read them. I'd have to buy the comic each month, or spend time tracking down old issues. They don't have them at the library, do they?

Get THE REDISCOVERY OF MAN if you can, a single volume with just about all his science fiction.

Is the statement 'nothing is objective' objectively true? Or is it only true for you?

Or simply makes a judgment based on past experience.

I think that's because you're a prejudiced person. You make assumptions based on little or no evidence, and then act as if your assumptions are true. They're not.

It was an insult, pure and simple. The fact that I didn't know who it was just meant it wasn't a very effective insult.

Nope.

My reasoning is eminently rational, given the premises.

Duh.

You've badly misinterpreted basic English. 'Not acceptable to everyone' and 'unacceptable to everyone' are two vastly different statements.

Fair enough. Not that I appreciate the condescension, but that's a perfectly legitimate view.

No, by my next-door neighbor's judgment.

But of course that is apparently just your sly way of arguing that *all* types of judging are identical, which they are not. I am making a moral judgment on your conduct based on an established and objective code of ethics. You are making judgments on me based on your personal opinions. I understand that's common for a lot of people, which is why you may think it's actually a reasonable way to behave, when it isn't.

And the fact that I provided those reasons didn't seem to matter to you, for some reason, because you'd already decided that everyone's mind *must* work the way yours does.

Then it's self-contradictory. Either way, I don't believe it.

That would seem to be more of your problem than mine.

The extent to which you are prejudiced seems astronomically high.

You just think they do.

As did you, hypocrite. Wow, when all else fails, attack someone for making a post in the first place. Kinda grasping at straws, now.

Hello, the *thread* was about Spider-Man, book vs. movie, and I posted what I thought were relevant thoughts on that. *Most* of my message was about Spider-Man. I responded to the LotR message instead of the previous one because I had something to say about it because it was the introduction to all the rest of my comments about Spider-Man.

Túrin

I'm perpetually amazed when people admit they're behaving offensively and irrationally and actually take pride in it. It's the symptom of a dying culture.
