Hey y'all !

I'm a newbie at this newsgroup - so, don't laugh at me *g* The reason I started this post is that I have a short question: last week I saw the Spiderman movie and I really liked it...anyways, it inspired me to start reading the spiderman comics. But now I've got the problem where to start at - I got on ebay to look for some of the 'first' comics but there are like a hundred different kinds of comics. So, my question is: Where can I start? And, with what comic can I start? Is there something like a 'first' comic with a beginning? Oh, and where can I get those comics for a payable price?

Thanks a lot for any help!!!

Daniel

P.S.: Is here anybody from Germany who knows where to get those comics there and in English?

P.P.S.: I'm sorry about all the questions )

Idealy you should start with the very first appearance of Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy 15, and then read Amazing Spider-Man from number one to around 122.

These issues cover the origins of Spidey, and build up his life/history over a period of time. It's also totaly unaltered with no retro active changes to his history, and it'll allow you to see how Spidey really was in the early days. You'll also get an insite into why the movie is the way it is - Rami did a good job of putting all these aspects of Spideys life into 2 hours (imho).

Unfortunately, you'll not easily be able to afford these early comics, but you can buy a large paperback reprint book called 'The Essential Spider-Man'. They're around $13 each, and the first one covers issues 1 to 20. There are 5 volumes out at the moment. They're only black and white, but I still think these stories are a good read.

If you go into your local comic shop, you should be able to get some of the reprinted versions of these in colour, especialy AF15, and these are quite affordable. Some of the Marvel Tales issues reprinted the ASM issues, and might the way for you to catch up in colour.

The 'Essential' trade editions are great - a good way to study the penciling and inking of Romita, Kane, and Stan Lee's jet-propelled story-telling.

We also recommend the trade paperbacks 'The Best of Spider-Man', Todd McFarlane's 'Torment', and any and all John Romita Jr.-drawn anthologies (especially 'Coming Home'.

You should also be aware that the Bendis & Bagley re-boot of the original storyline, 'Ultimate-Spider-Man', is also available as full-color reprint paperbacks. Volume 3 just came out this month.

If you live in Düsseldorf go to: Nic's Comics Klosterstr. 51

If not try these sites: www.bytecomics.de/verzeichnis/?kid=500 www.comicsurf.de/fs_haendler.html www.comic.de/ -> 'Gelbe Seiten' -> 'Adressen'

I can recommend 'Andi's Comic Express' for Mail-Order: www.comicexpress.de

For general information: www.splashpages.de www.comicon.com/newsarama/

There's also a german newsgroup for comics: news:de.alt.comics
