BAD? What dugs are you on troll?

It was great! Best comic book movie ever! Character development and very faithful to the general ideas of the comic (whine about details if you like).

Well at least the LOTR fan-boys who whined about differences in details in the movie FOTR were semi-literate.

Well, I have yet to see it, but I'm already put off by the Goblin 'suit', and most of the casting - MJ and Peter are so badly casted its ridiculous - and I can guarantee I'll be totally agreeing with Spidey when I get out of the cinema...Aiee!! I'm having flashbacks! I'm reminded of the crap they spewed out for batman and robin

Hi Ken,

I'm glad you liked it. I, on the other hand, fail to share the same zeal as you for the movie. I certainly disagree with your character development comment, although I will agree that, as origin stories go, the movie did manage to mimic most of what we have come to know and love, even if it took half the movie to do it. But I don't think it's 'whining' when I say that most of the other characters were simply there in name only, and had little to do with the forty years of character development already in place. THAT should be evident to anyone who's read any of the Spider-Man comics.

All that being said, I'm looking forward to Hulk, Daredevil, X-Men 2, and all the rest of the Marvel movies soon to hit the big screen. I'm just sad that Spider-man didn't even come close to my expectations.

*laugh* Oh my, I certainly left myself open for that one. Taken out of context, that's pretty funny. My point was, I don't enjoy reading prose fiction. I enjoy reading non-fiction prose. What fiction I do read comes from comics. I hope that clears things up, yes?

On 03 May 2002, Spidey wandered deep into the Valley of Knowledge and Confusion and emerged victorious, proclaiming:

<SNIP>

I disagree with you. It wasn't horrible. But it wasn't great, either. It was just a good film.

That said, I can think of a number of ways that it could have been done better, IMHO. As always, the creation of the superhero is rushed. And the conflict with the bad guy is too short. Why couldn't this have ended with the 'birth' of the Green Goblin leading to the next film?

Yeah, yeah. Probably something about Universal not wanting to make a film with a cliffhanger before they know they can sell the sequel.

But, I am sick and tired of the formulaic way every superhero movie writer ends the film. There were so many ways that Spidey vs. the Green Goblin could have played out, but I think they took the easy way to resolve the conflict.
