Anyone know what Spiderman's eyes are made out of? Not his actual eyes, but the big white part of his costume. I always assumed it was some sort of stretched nylon, but my friend says it's plastic (like a custom pair of sunglasses). Has it ever been explained - one way or another - in the comics?

It's always been some kind of two-way reflective plastic that allows him to see out but no one in, blah, blah.......

A number of occasions the lenses have actually cracked while he's fighting and you can see it in the comics/artwork. There was one story where he thought his neck snapped only to realize the noise he heard was his lenses cracking.

This doesn't explain how he's able to fold the mask into his pocket, etc. But this IS fantasy after all...

They also gave some semi-technical information in one of the earliest issues of ASM. I remember reading it in Volume 1 of Essential SM.
