Any body got a lead on a good ng where people actually talk about comics and whats going on in the industry? This place is more like the bulletin board at the local car wash...................stuff for sale. Mac

Well then let me ask a question about the comics instead of requesting to buy some. Even though it's a dumb question. Pardon my ignorance, it's been a while:

I've just started getting back into comics again a bit, only Spider-Man though as he's always been my favorite and the backbone of my comic collecting and reading. I stopped off at a local comic shop and saw The Amazing Spider-Man.....issue 31. Inside in the fine print I see this is volume 2. What is this title and it's story? What happened to the original Amazing SM and isn't it well into the 400's now?

I post stuff now and then, but it gets old getting no replies. Maybe if we all post more it will attract more posters and we can have an actual group.

There's no reason why ACSM can't be as good a group as alt.comics.batman

Also, at least according to the comic shop dealer here in town, some kind of a sales strategy was involved. It went something like this........most spiderman readers are males, and male comic collectors have a tendency to want to 'collect' the whole set. Well, going for a 400 + book run was a little.....uh....., out of reach (discouraging) for most young collectors. So they just stopped it one day and started over with a new #1. Its been going ever since. Whether this idea has worked or not, I do not know. I was pretty much only interested in the first 130 issues anyways, at least until Ultimate Spidey came out. I'm enjoying that book immensely.

Yeah, I noticed that it says (with the current issue I just got) #31 in large print and #472 just below it and smaller. Must be keeping track of both numbers.

Speaking of Ultimate SM, I wish I had decided to get back into SM a little earlier too! I'd like to get these comics (yes, I have that disease where I like to collect the whole set) but not at the prices they are fetching. The standard issue (red) #1 would be fine with me, I don't have to have the white alternate version. Wow, I think it's cool how they are redoing Spidey with a new fresh start in updated times! I'd like to start reading this title, what issue is the most current as of now?

Obviously being a fan I'd say something like this....but I'll say it anyway. 'Spider-Man is cooler than Batman so of course it could be just as good, or better!'

......and another question. Is Aunt May dead or what? From what I heard, I thought she died in #400, but here she is in volume 2 #31. Please be patient with me, I'm in need of catching up.

She did die in #400, but as usual, Marvel doesn't have the cajones to make a major storyline change and they brought her back...I'm sure someone knows the details better than I.

Thus one of the purposes of this newsgroup. I hadn't read spiderman since about the mid 70's with the exception of this Kraven/Spiderman story where Kraven dies. It was way good. So I got catching up to do also.
